MESSAGE TO THE NEXT BIG THING
Education
WE ARE THINKING THAT THE WORLD IS MOVING INTO TRANSPARENCY, BUT IT IS MOVING INTO SHADOWS IN REALITY
Lately, I concluded reading a book named, “The Magnificent Shiva”. If you believe or worship Lord Shiva, its definitely a good read for his life’s short stories. Basically, all the names or virtues that are attributed to Lord Shiva are justified with reasons. His short stories vouch for all the love he is getting, despite being The Destroyer of the Universe.
One of the spiritual or kind of a scientific story this book narrates is directly related to us. Why do we age? I will plunge into it briefly. As we know, each living creature on this planet/universe is nothing but a manifestation of the tiniest fraction of energy from Lord Shiva. You, me, everybody is part of Lord Shiva’s energy pool. Like every living creature, this cosmos, its celestial objects are also generated from Shiva’s energy. They also get produced and destroyed. We live in this cosmos, so we (as energy) interact with this cosmic energy. In this way, we are CONSUMED, the energy eventually decreases and hence, we age. This is the law of Universe, and there is no way out to not age. However, this happens at an extremely slow rate which is why we don’t feel it.
God has its own way to attenuate our power, but we have invented our own way to not just diminish this energy but to age torrentially. Yes, we have created our own source to age. And one of the biggest man-made and hidden contributors of aging effect is our tech-race.
I was telling my husband that I feel I am lagging when it comes to daily feeds in technology. Every news that I read has no link or negligible reference to what I read last (before few hours) on the same subject. I am not able to cope up with what is happening in this fast paced AI-tech world. I never thought I am slow, but this time is proving me wrong. He answered, “You are not slow, the world is moving dangerously fast.”
I will be honest with you. I am aware of the tangible results AI is producing, but leaping shows no significant results to cater to current or futuristic issues. While I acknowledge the fact that I stand nowhere to comment on AI world, I am still a consumer of AI. I want AI to help me with what’s good for me, but I am not able to understand what the world is trying to achieve. I do not want a robot at every corner of my home. I don’t see any goalpost, I don’t see the boundaries, I don’t see any regulations and unfortunately, I don’t see any ground level result. For instance, we certainly need data centers, but it is not at all compulsory to have AI enabled data centers. Why are we investing time, effort, money on sophistication when the need at the very first place is still unaddressed? Parallel processing for improving the gaming experience is not the primary need. We should only focus on other necessary dimensions of AI.
The solution to global and national concern is not AI but morals. We already have enough of technology at present, the need of the hour is unity and humanity. We want intentions, not infrastructure. We need morals, not large language models. We are in search of solitude, not the stocks. We need values, not valuations. We need human connections, not neural networks. We need advancements, not superiority. We are so attached to this technical world that we are investing thousands of billions of dollars trying to create a world which will imitate human intelligence. Few corporate giants are competing on their monetary strengths to rule this world. We cannot veil the dangers coming alongside AI. We will be critically after our life if we do not mandate policies and regulations to navigate this so-called advancement.
Given a chance, I would desperately want to go back to the time when my LinkedIn profile used to be jam-packed with job opportunities, good thoughts, professional interview experiences, learning videos, etc. instead of acquisitions, clashes, fundings, stock prices, AI articles, AI model comparisons, AI embodied in various products and everything.
For me, if coming decade has the potential to revolutionize the tech world, I will die to see an entirely new world where:
AI would educate people (in power) and countries with this simple fact that instead of spending their highest chunk of GDP in defense, lets live peacefully within our defined geographical borders.
AI would help an individual earn a decent sum of money to feed his/her family three times a day with unadulterated and satisfying meal.
AI would warn people doing unethical mischiefs, disrespectful acts, demeaning people’s emotions and kindness.
AI would propagate smile, care and make people aware that human connection and senses can never be programmed into a machine.
AI would sensitize young people to practice struggle and challenges and instill this life lesson that no lunch is free and depression and suicide are not the answers.
AI would appeal people to prioritize family, physical and mental health over everything else, especially money.
AI would make people sensible to realize the fact that spending time with your aged parents is as critical as planning your travel diaries.
AI would trace out activities and stop us from polluting the earth even more and reduce the CO2 emissions on daily basis wherever possible.
Technological advancements should capture global population for a common good cause and not divide nations to embrace monopoly. We need technology to simplify our life, not to overdo or complicate it. AI is still edgy, so there is a lot more that will come out. I am not at all against AI, I am against some of the use-cases of AI.
The efforts towards sophisticating our life will not come to fruition unless basic global need is properly served. I wish one day, AI proves me wrong, and I reverse this understanding about dangers of AI.
I hope we develop AI not to be just the next big thing, but all-time great thing😊
