MY MODERN DAY BHAGWAD GITA
Self, Social
MAYBE IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE, WE STILL EXIST THE RIGHT WAY
A few teachings are introduced to this world to make mankind realize that we are inadequately tiny to understand those and will never be enough. I religiously read a simplistic version of Bhagwad Gita, but with utmost honesty, I confess that the poetry, the meaning, the message is incredibly deep, intense and heavy for me. Credit to the author (Mr. Hari Chetan) to explain Bhagwad Gita in the most simplistic way possible, but we cannot understand most of the content no matter how much it is fragmented or grinded. To all the people who understood Bhagwad Gita thoroughly, I envy you (only for this)
We have grown up listening to the lessons of Gita from our elders so we do have a fair idea. One of the teachings of Gita (major takeaway from this book) is to connect to the Supreme Soul. It is considered that human life is the last physical form a soul can take. The aim of this human life is to attain salvation after death. However, this much awaited destiny comes with a few conditions. Human life is meant to bridge the gap between the human soul and supreme soul. All our activities should be targeted to fill this gap by disengaging with our attachments, our materialistic pleasures and moving towards Godliness. After I finished reading, I was wondering (and wandering too) why am I finding it so difficult to grasp each phrase? It felt heavy while trying to absorb its depth. If this is true and common, how can we make Gita relevant and connected to this generation?
It is said that you can open any phrase from any page of Bhagwad Gita, and you will get your answer for your problem, irrespective of type. If Gita is this holistic and widespread, it becomes even more essential to be cognizant of it. But how? If this simple authentic translation is esoteric, how do we implement its teachings in our day to day being?
This is my input on the above questions. As Lord Vishnu took different Avatar to serve different needs, this version of Bhagwad Gita by Lord Krishna was told to Arjuna when he was emotionally down in the battlefield. These teachings of Bhagwad Gita were spoken in accordance to the era, societal values and conditions, the situation, individual intellect, conflicts, need, etc. In a nutshell, it was in alignment with the circumstantial obligation. As one single Avatar of Lord Vishnu was not supposed to protect the world from different negativities/demons at different times, so is this version of Bhagwad Gita. The learning remains the same, only the abstraction part varies. And if we can decode and enforce its learnings for this generation of mankind, we will make ourselves capable of calling “spiritual”. In modern days, these learning are:
------
“This too shall pass” is an extremely worthy technique to combat our inner emotions. It teaches us to remain grateful when in a low mood and graceful in happy times.
We will NEVER be able to please everyone. Focus on your people, live for them and do not allow yourself to spread amongst many. Don’t just prioritize, simply eliminate. We do not have to demean or disrespect others; the practice should be to give them a smile and walk away. Refrain ourselves from giving them time and energy.
Ignorance is much more peaceful than revenge and grudges.
Silence is manifold more powerful than sword.
The world does not need competition, it needs pure participation.
The world has not seen and will never see bigger rulers than kindness and empathy.
People and Google SEO should rank/recommend “what should be seen” as high and not “what is most seen”.
Try to be right, not early.
Real life stories should be much more valued/viewed than Bollywood interview reels.
Education/Behavior/Intent is more attractive than entertainment.
Praying or devotion to God is not a cliché, thinking that you CAN control everything is.
Loyalty is not to stay back; it is to stick with righteousness.
Every decision of life has a reverse gear and there is no road that does not have a U-turn.
Being selfless is more inviting than upholding designations.
Our personal properties only include our relations, emotions and connection with God. Do not try to claim anything more.
And many more...
